Valued as a medicine in Europe because of its astringent properties, Dragon's Blood is also used as a varnish for violins and in photoengraving. Daemonorops draco, a rattan palm native to Malaysia and Indonesia, produces much of the Dragon's Blood of commerce.

The Dragon Tree has been used indoors for decades and is a long time favorite. It doubles not only as an indoor plant but can also be found decorating the landscape of South Florida, the Caribbean and Hawaii. Its foliage is a near vertical to horizontal mass of narrow pointed green leaves with red to purple stripes along the outer edge. As new leaves emerge from the top, the mature leaves on the bottom drop away. The canes can be grown straight to produce a tall plant with a compact 'footprint' or be trained to curve, creating unique character plants. Several canes are generally planted in each pot, often of varying lengths to produce a fuller specimen. Plant stands approximately 12" tall and is potted in a 6" ceramic pot.
